I really enjoy TOT. THey definitely have a different sound that has been solidified when JR joined, but I like it. Stream of Consciousness is their best instrumental song.

Better than Bombay Vindaloo on Live at the Marquee???

Jordan Rudess... yes.. I like it a LOT. I first discovered him on Liquid Tension Experiment's albums. I wrote a post below about LTE so... If you haven't listened to them... please do.

I really like LTE... When the Water Breaks took a while to get into, but now I'm glad I gave it a chance... It's instrumental brilliance, which holds my attention through the whole 16 minutes.

I haven't seen Live at the Marquee.

Live at the Marquee is not a special album. The band recorded the show from a London pub and... they made an album. As I know there are 2 recording versions of the album.. one made in Tokio and one in Germany (i'm not pretty sure)... but i know for sure that the one that is not recorded in Japan contains a track called Bombay Vindaloo (this track doesn't exist on the other recording set)... and is one of their best instrumental songs... and it's LIVE... what makes me like it even more.

Go out and look for it...

I dig ToT. Best album since Awake if you ask me.

Indeed Awake is one of my favorites but how can you pass over DT's greatest masterpiece... Scenes from a Memory.

Any of you seen Liquid Drum Theater? Drum lessons from Portnoy. Incredible tehniques on that album (Scenes from a Memory) and Liquid Tension Experiment albums. Awesome.

If you haven't... start looking for it (Liquid Drum Theater -DVD and Liquid Tension Experiment - 2 awesome, instrumental albums). Even if you are not a drummer (I CERTAINLY AM NOT) the video is extremly captivating. You will see a glimpse of one of the greatest band in the world... I really thought that things like these are not possible...

      See ya

Nothing beats Scenes From A Memory and Falling into Infinity IMO.

        Both are great albums.

Awake was good too, but not as good as the former two.

I'm sorry I might seem to be a poser of a DT fan. But I don't actually own any albums by them. I just have their NYC DVD, which kicks more ass than I know of. I'm a drummer, so obviously I bought the DVD sepcificly for Portnoy's constant, amazing, fast, off beat but yet perfectly on beat drums. I would put him in the same catagory of drummers as John Bonham: Complete god!

      You are absofuckinglutely RIGHT...

About posing ... don't worry being a fan after all is a bad thing... being a true listener is more important i think!

So.. likewise.. i do not consider myself a FAN of DT but i say only... DT is my favorite band! And I wouldn't miss any concert around me... (remember i am in Romania.. and they only came ONCE... and i SAW THEM :))) )

But to return to the topic ... Portnoy kicks those DRUMS like no one before did... And behind all the visual and audio aspects there is a whole world of ideas... That's the most important thing.... (remember the shrink and grow section....) He has technique but, my god he has talent as a musician TOO!

Please listen Liquid Tension Experiment... Portnoy, Petrucci, Rudess and Levin at their very best !!!

I have yet to see DT live. :(

But I'm not much of a concert goer these days, so that's not surprising.

Wish I could have made the QR/DT show, but oh well. I will definately see DT live one of these days though.

seeing DT live is an experience of a lifetime. i saw them on the train of thought tour this year in hammersmith london. and ive seen them on the SFAM tour in 2000. the SFAM gig was fucking amazing. one of the most emotional experiences ever to. the music on that album is beautiful aswell as fukin rocking.

the TOT gig was so fukin heavy. it just took me into a world of my own. i rocked out soo much that i was covered in sweat at the end and nearly passing out. i was rite at the front being crushed by 2000 people tho lol.

Liquid tension is also amazing. i never knew them to be able to see them live but i love their music. paradigm shift is artwork. aosl the jazz section in biaxident is excellent!!

          ROCK ON PPL \m/

I pretty much like everything they have put out so far, they haven't let me down yet unlike Queensryche and their release of HitNF, but I have forgiven them for that. :)

ToT is good, but by far not my favorite album. It kind of makes me think of how the first time I listened to "Awake," it didn't do much for me...but then it grew on me with each listen. I think, though, that ToT has too much of a rough edge for me to like it as much as I&W or SFAM.
